Free Ice Cream Time Again

Visit your local ice cream shops next week for a free ice cream cone:

April 27 = Ben & Jerry's
April 28 = Baskin-Robbins

Funny, both of those days are the birthdays of childhood friends. Not funny for you, I guess, but funny for me. Maybe funny for Ryan and Jason, but they probably aren't going to read this. My memory must have been better back then because I can remember old friends' birthdays but not current friends. What was this post about again?

Republican National Committee's propaganda

This is pretty interesting. The website of the Republican National Committee has a "fact sheet" that contains the following:
"America has a choice: It can continue to grow the economy and create new jobs as the President's policies are doing; or it can raise taxes on American families and small businesses, hurting economic recovery and future job creation."

Now look at the bottom of this government press release. Look familiar? It word for word what is on the RNC website. It has nothing to do with the contents of the press release (besides being about taxes).

The government is now blatantly spreading RNC propoganda.

Update: R. Davis has a really insightful page about this and the text of other Treasury bulletins. Check it out at: http://home.att.net/~rdavis2/treas1.html

Break Open Your Cold Ones!

Continuing with the corporitization of everything, the a new baseball stadium for the San Diego Padres was opened -- it's called Petco Park.

The funniest part about it is that PETA pulled a fast-one on Petco. According to their press release, they took the opportunity to purchase a commemoritive brick that will be permanently displayed at the new baseball stadium that is home to the San Diego Padres.

The brick says "Break Open Your Cold Ones! Toast The Padres! Enjoy This Championship Organization!"—the initial letters of which spell out "BOYCOTT PETCO."

Petco has a history of deplorable animal housing and treatment, yet they refuse to acknowledge the problem. See the following links for more information:

Maintenant qu'hilare

bagtag.gifThis is stolen from a blog called skeptomai. Here's a quote from that post:

I had to share this find. I recently purchased a high-quality computer sleeve from a small boutique manufacturer. I was checking if it could be washed. The photo is the attached tag with the washing instructions in both English and French. The English is exactly what you would expect and so is the French, for the first 6 lines. The last three lines of French are most interesting. "We are sorry that our President is an idiot. We didn't vote for him." Given recent strained relations between our two countries, it's good to see that not all Americans agree with the current administration.

Apparently, it is a bag made by Tom Bihn Designs. A representative from the company commented on the post noting that her "idea to put that on the care label was inspired by these t-shirts: http://www.cafeshops.com/americanapology/137430"

Et tu, NPR?

Seems that NPR is going corporate. After nearly 25 years as host of Morning Edition, Bob Edwards is being re-assigned. I don't know if you listen to ME, but Bob has such a fantastic radio voice - calm and soothing for the morning hours. He is smart and has a wicked sense of humor. Even though ratings are higher than ever, the idiots at NPR feel that the show needs to go a new direction, to "mix it up a bit". So "re-assigning" an extremely popular host to a job he doesn't want (that of senior correspondent) is the way to go. Right.

In a letter from the NPR Ombudsman to Bob Edwards, Ombudsman Jeffrey Dvorkin states "As NPR's Ombudsman, this issue is one of the most intense I've encountered. It's way up there. Bob, this is a huge outpouring of public opinion. To put it into some perspective, it's fewer than what I received about NPR's Middle East coverage; more than the fallout after Terry Gross interviewed Bill O'Reilly."
